in Portugal, to proceed to Lisbon and to urge the matter upon the attention of the Portuguese Cover-
ment; and in doing so the Wai-wu Pu desire their
strong hope to be expressed to His Excellency that
the British Representative at Lisbon may be authorised to give his valuable support to the Chinese repre-
sentations on the subject.
The question, and the need for prompt action,
have become somewhat urgent as it has been heard that
the Government of Macao has invited, or is about to
invite, tenders for a renewal of their gambling farm,
and it is important that a strong protest be lodged
in good time.
